1) How do I know counselling is for me?
I am happy to answer any enquiries. I offer an initial consultation (lasting approx. 30 minutes) which is an opportunity for us to meet, and for you to get a sense of who I am and what I can offer. It is also an opportunity for any questions and for us to decide if we would like to work together.
2) How do I know if the counsellor I have chosen is qualified?
At present, registration of counsellors is not compulsory. However, most counsellors will be a member of a professional body, and practice according to its code of ethics. The following organisation holds a register of members and has a formal complaints procedure: The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
3) How long will counselling take?
I am happy to work on a short or long-term basis. Some issues can be explored in a few sessions whilst others require more time.
4) What does “confidential” mean?
I wish to respect your confidentiality. This means that information shared by you remains confidential other than in very exceptional circumstances. This is something I can expand on during our first meeting together.
5) How often do I attend counselling?
Sessions last up to 1 hour and most clients have their appointments weekly. This allows for time between sessions without loss of continuity. Sometimes, when approaching the end of a course of therapy clients will have their appointments less frequently, perhaps fortnightly or monthly, depending on how you feel. We can work around your individual needs. Hours are 10.00am - 8.00pm and I also offer appointments evening and sat.morning.
6) How much does it cost?
I charge £20.00 for an initial consultation (30 minutes); £40.00 per hour for waged individuals; £30.00 per hour for unwaged and students. Some counsellors offer sessions lasting 50 mins, but I feel that 60 mins allows time for us to wind down in the last ten minutes.
7) Is it difficult to get to you?
Not at all, I'm within easy reach of Glasgow, Falkirk and Stirling. Clients often remark on the fact that there is a very efficient bus service to the area as well as the fact that there is ample parking on arrival should you come in your own transport.
